Therefore, prepare your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
1 Peter 1:13
The Christian is not to be sitting around. He is to be a person of action. In the time of the early church, people said that the Christians "turned the world upside down." I've heard people say that Christians should be the "quiet and peaceable in the land." I don't think that's a very good picture of what God had in mind for us. We should be peaceful and not pick a fight with anyone, but we should not be quiet about what God has done for us. We should be shaking up people's lives with the good news of salvation. We should be prepared for action, and if we are following God, we will get the action we're prepared for. The Christian life is never dull. God will push us beyond our comfort zone if we're willing and ready to follow him.
Lord, help me to be prepared for action, close to You and ready to follow when You call. I want to be willing to speak up for You, and alert for opportunities to do it. Keep me sober in spirit with my hope fixed on your grace.
These are my notes from my daily personal devotions. They are not proofread or edited in any way. The feed is also a weekly sermon podcast. My focus is on living out what the Bible teaches literally. I hope it will be a help to you in you spiritual life. May God be praised.

Inexpressible and Full of Glory
with joy inexpressible and full of glory.
1 Peter 1:8
This is a picture of how I'd like to live my life. Too often I dwell on disappointments and negative things. Yet, I have so much to be thankful for. I want to appreciate what I've been given. I want to live in thankfulness and praise to God.

Chosen
"chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father"
1 Peter 1:1
I am rejoicing in being chosen of God. God chose to give me salvation. He chose to make me His own. I was an outcast from God's people (a gentile). I was a sinner who trusted in my own righteousness. I didn't realize that I needed God. There was no hope for me. But, God chose me. He took me through difficulties to make me realize that, without Him, I am nothing. He is continually refining and sanctifying me.
Does, this mean that I can just float along because He chose me? Do I have no choice in the matter? No, of course not! the next verse says, "to obey Jesus Christ." My responsibility is obedience to Him. I need to follow His leading. I must seek his will. When I obey, His blessing will be on my life. As you chose Him, He will chose you as well.
Lord, thank You for choosing. me. Help me to continually choose You. Help me to obey You whether or not I understand why. I ask for Your guidance and power to follow You unquestioningly.

Living Hope
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
1 Peter 1:3
We are born again to a living hope. What living hope do we have? We have Christ who is alive today in heaven interceding for us. We have a promise that we can live forever with Christ in heaven. This hope is more than an idle pipe dream or a far-fetched fantasy. This hope is a surety. It's a living hope. As we follow Christ, we can have His Spirit living inside us giving us the full assurance that we are His and we will live with Him in eternal happiness.
Lord, I thank You for the living hope that I have, the amazing assurance that I am justified by Your blood and righteous in Your sight. I ask You to continue to mold me into the person You want me to be. Help me to be willing to endure the difficulties that come with that molding process. Help me to patiently grow and live my entire life making You look good to those around me!
