nor to pay attention to myths and endless genealogies, which
give rise to mere speculation rather than furthering the administration of God
which is by faith.
1 Timothy 1:4
Here Paul is instructing Timothy to avoid arguing about
things that don’t really matter. Myths and genealogies could be discussed along
with their relative merit and whether they are at all true, but what is the
point? It only leads to speculation rather than giving any benefit to the
church of God. There are many things that we like to discuss that make for
endless discussion, but let’s think before we begin discussing them. Does this
really matter? Is it important to come to a conclusion about this matter? Will
it further the kingdom of God or just bring strife and dissension.
Lord, help us to only discuss things that would further the church
of Jesus Christ. Help us to keep in focus the things that are most important in
life. Help us to save our disagreements for things that truly matter so that
the work of your church may be furthered.
