Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to fix their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy.
1Ti 6:17
If you live in America, you are likely among the richest people in the world. So, this verse applies to us. We have so much. Our natural tendency is to begin to trust in those riches. How can we avoid this tendency? The next phrase tells us: fix our hope on God. He is the one who gave us all these things for our enjoyment. Let's not lose sight of the giver in our enjoyment of the things He has given.
Lord, please help me not to be distracted by the many gifts You've given me. Help me to continue to fix my trust on You and not on myself. I choose to keep You first in my life, and I ask for Your help in doing so.
